In the Hot Seat

I am glad for the first time in my 7th month as pastor, the chairman of the church council chaired last night’s meeting. I still have to speak out often but I am no longer in the hot seat as in the previous six months I was asked to chair all the meetings. I still had to calm troubled hearts and minds and arbitrate disputes between elders and deacons. The goal is church unity starting with the unity of the church council.

Even this morning the chairman texted me for advice and I gave him my opinion and told him he could say the pastor said so and so. One has to be decisive for the good of the whole body.

With internet banking the church income is not as bad as I thought but there was no increase in giving but a significant increase in expenses as we started fellowship drinks after service with a budget of RM100.00 a week which is not enough but the women folks contribute out of their own pockets.

It may be a small church, sometimes we don’t even have 100 adults but the problems are the same everywhere dealing with people of all stripes with different levels of maturity. But praise be to God as I have no ambitions and no wish for anything apart from seeking God’s will and the good of the church as a whole and if my leaders understand that (and more are coming on board now) there will be peace and unity and there are many things we can do together when we are of one heart and mind.
