Leaders & its Timing

I had had 10 days of rest and reflection since returning from Entilibon in the early hours of Sunday (9hb November) arriving in Kota Kinabalu just before 10am. I drove for nearly 5 hours with an half hour breakfast stop in Ranau, in the coffee shop I frequented regularly as it is one of the few shops opened by 6am in the morning. It was a perfect place for me to be 10 years ago in Ranau when I rose for early breakfast preparing to preach two Sunday sermons at 8am and 10am.

The trip to Entilibon was expected with much refreshments from fellowship with believers and church leaders. The District Superintendent told me that he knew me from my days at Pusat, possible just a young man in his early 20s. Now he has a few grand children of his own. He shared many things with me and asked me about things happening in the wider church and it is good that at least a few are willing to listen.

I preached three messages from Friday night, Saturday morning ending Saturday night services. These services were not long compared to those in Alutok at the end of August, all were under two hours including the first night with a couple of speeches and a few song presentations. I preached on average 40 minutes per session which was good as even the final night, people were still fresh when we finished at 9.30pm sharp from 7.30pm start and we had a long one hour supper fellowship before I called it a night.

By 5.30am the next morning I was making my way back to Kota Kinabalu, driving in all about 436kms to and fro, on long winding single lane mountainous roads. The weather was good and the wind was at my back and I felt reinvigorated by the Holy Spirit. Yet returning home, I had much time to deliberate on many things. 10 days had gone by but I am still waiting on the Lord.

I reflect the nature of leadership. A leader makes things happening according to God's will. He does not just occupy the position like many do, but do nothing. A leader is key to success every step of the way. You need a change, you change the leader. But many institutions and churches are so slow in change for they are settled on their lees, set on status quo, in fact resisting change because it will upend their positions. A true leader serves and inspires people to come along with him. But there is a time for everything. Even David, being persecuted by King Saul for 10 years, he waited 7 plus years before the elders of Israel all came together to crown him king over all Israel.
