It is surprising how much one can hear in silence. Even the voice of the Holy Ghost, gentle and sweet. In solitude one finds solace from the busyness of this world. There are bright lights aplenty, pomp and glory. But the kingdom of God advances without people noticing it, silently but surely transforming hearts and minds by the power of the Gospel. He does not lift up his voice nor he breaks the broken reed.
He speaks ever so softly to those who wait for Him in silence. What glory of this world can we exchange with a moment of His presence? Is not that what we covet- His holy presence in our midst? But now we have chatter and blinking lights but God is not there. And we are distracted and our eyes look at the beautiful form of this world. When he came, was he announced by fanfare or by the courts’ trumpeters? No but by a man who lived in solitude in the desert, dressed with camel’s hair and a leather belt, nothing like the pomp of this world. Why have grand dinners and feasting? Should we not pray and fast and cry out to God that those who graduate from the school of the Holy Spirit will go forth in His power and anointing to preach the Gospel to the poor and heal the sick and mend the weary souls?
