Gift of Preaching

One of the many graces that I received from the Lord and has been utilised in some measures is the gift of preaching. I did not refer to my notes once, as I preached a 37 minutes sermon on Galatians 5:13-26, basically an expository sermon. Preaching in a church after almost 2 years since I left to pastor another church on the other side of town seemed surreal and I thanked the leaders for granting me that opportunity in my 2nd week back in the church.

And evidently there were more members attending above 300 people and about 5 or 6 people came up to thank me. All the elders about 4 of them and the three pastors were present. It was the grace of God operating to bless His people. Who wants to listen to dull sermons?

I was really surprised that my former church did not ask me to stay on, not that I would reconsider but I would remember them more fondly. When you give up anointed preaching for old milk or at best watery porridge, there is something really wrong, so it is right for me to go.

It shows how difficult truth penetrates hearts because most leaders are still easily offended - and they want to retain control - you don't tell us what to do since we pay your salary - so I am at peace to be doing what I am doing. What I told the young man was fulfilled in the past week. I was writing full-time and when I got tired from writing, I prepared my sermon, not that the sermon came second, but as I spent more than 3 hours early this morning from 4.30am to 7.30am before I got ready to church, arriving at church 8.15am for the 8.30am start.
