The Support of God's Servants

Tomorrow, God willing, I shall be preaching through the whole chapter of 1 Corinthians 9 on Paul's teaching on the financial support of God's servants. It's part of the expository series on 1 Corinthians which unfortunately I won't be able to finish as I shall be completing my tenure as pastor on the 22nd Feb 2026. I hope to reach 1 Corinthians 11 and preach it as my farewell sermon on the hierarchy of the Godhead and also in church based on the first part of 1 Cor 11 & 12 as well as Ephesians 4's five fold ministry.

There are four themes to my sermon tomorrow. First, God's servants deserve financial support for their work. Second, Paul did not exercise his rights, but he defended others' rights to receiving wages for their work. Third, Paul's philosophy in ministry about ministering to everyone, poor or rich, educated or uneducated, free or slave, powerful or subjects.

There are many divisions in society that only Christ could bridge as His love is universal, open to all who repent and believe in Him. Fourth, Paul's vision and purposeful ministry, running with aim and not boxing in the air as he put it.

We will see how it goes tomorrow and I have 12 slides in all. As much as I had decided to move on into the next phase of my life and ministry, I have not prepared anything beyond the month of February except while waiting, I will write my second volume of the commentary to John's Gospel 13-21. I hope to get it done within 6 months, by God's grace and move onto another book by the final quarter of the year. Beyond that, only God knows what I shall do.
