A pastor's job is a great job if done well for God's glory. Today is my day of rest and I could not write as my mind was filled with events of yesterday. A pastor with a family serves his family first. When my son was with me 20 years ago, every Sunday morning we left our house at 7.40am to get to church by 7.50am for a 8am start. We were never late and our son as a young teenager was obedient and he never gave his father any troubles. Yesterday as I was not preaching and that I had already resigned, I waited for my wife and we reached the church just 5 minutes before the 9am start.
Normally I would be in church by 8.15am to talk to members who arrive early. As I went up to my seat, I gave a bible to a church member, a used Bible which I sold for RM10.00 as I did not want to give it for free. Then after service, he handed over to me two notes of RM20.00 and I said how come so much? I gave him a copy of my commentary of John's gospel and asked him to read it when he comes to places that he does not understand about the gospel. Then I spoke to 5 or 6 church members, perhaps more even as I was among the last to leave, I spoke with three youngsters aged 15-18 years old. Now I am on my way out, so people just do things on their own without informing their pastor which is fine with me, but if they want my participation they should at least give me a bit of notice of what is going on.
I wanted a quick transit but I thought it was only fair to give members a whole month to adapt to their pastor leaving them for good. One leader told me during the last meeting (3 weeks ago) that he was only digesting why I resigned - it is difficult to tell all, but in wisdom I told it as it should during my farewell speech on 25th January. It's two more Sundays and I shall glad to take leave of this ministry that has borne little fruits and I shall focus what I can do best - to write and be a blessing to those who want to know the truth.
