Divine Impressions, Reflections on Divinity & other things beside
Holy Spirit Come
Lord I am your handiwork the son of your handmaid. How beautiful and glorious is God's creation. He makes all things perfect and beautiful, all in its place, shape and purpose. Today I sang my Greek song Kurie eleison just before my students took their Greek exams. I also sang Fall Afresh on Me Holy Spirit as I commemorate 34 years of my being baptised in the Holy Spirit in one prayer meeting barely 2 weeks after I encountered Jesus Christ as an 17 year old. Lord You sent Your Spirit and they are created. But how beautiful God's creation is and we will be in the new heavens and the new earth. Lord my heart longs for home to be with You forever more.
In a crowded field of scholarship, I am delighted to see my name mentioned along with 40 or more scholars by Russell Morton's Recent Research on Revelation (Sheffield Phoenix, 2014; see here). If I were earning Singapore dollars I would have no hesitation to order the book for my library. The last book I ordered was last August when I was in Singapore, also on Revelation by C. Koester (Anchor Yale, 2014) and according to google scholar my book was cited 4 or 5 times in Koester's 940 page-long commentary (in fact it was cited 7 times!). I was invited by Asian Theological Commentary series to write a commentary on Revelation and I am still sitting on the invitation for the past month, not knowing whether I could find time to write. My Monday rest is take up with catching up on sleep. I wished I had a 2-day weekend.
Leadership is not everything but is critical to the success of any venture or plan. Whether in business, education or church, all things run well when the leadership inspires and has the ability to put things into action. As an invited speaker to two major meets in the District of 23 churches I was expecting more from these meetings. But I was just the speaker and not the organizing committee and there is only as much I could do to promote the events. In fact, I only asked my church to pray for me once in the Tuesday prayer meeting and once on Sunday. I am glad as pastor, at least my own church is humming along though there is much to be done. The only event I organised was a roaring success, by the grace of God, when 70 students turned up in our Conference room last month. Leaders are visionaries, planners, organisers and implementers. And above all, spiritual leaders are prayer warriors because there are forces in the heavenly that are arrayed against the purposes of God and God…
It is sunset in Singapore. I wish all my readers who love Yhwh adonai and Jesus, His Messiah, a blessed Sukkoth. It is a season of great joy when God gathers His people into His land and all nations to come to Zion to worship Him on the holy mountain. This Feast (15th to 21st Tishri) reminds us that we are temporary aliens on earth and hence, the commandment to build booths (sukkot) as a commemoration of Israel's wilderness wanderings before entering the promised Land. Now a greater Yahshuah has come to save us and will lead us into the true promised land where everlasting rest and peace dwell.
